Classic Dutch butter cake with almond flavor.

Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg (for topping)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for topping)
  • sliced almonds (eyeball the amount)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8” square cake pan.
  • Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add almond extract and blend in the beaten egg.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir until smooth.
  • Spread dough evenly in the prepared pan.
  • For the topping, beat 1 egg with 1 tbsp milk. Brush over the dough.
  • Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
